About This Martin Guitar
1946 Martin D-28 Herringbone RETOP by Martin #95047
This is a 1946 Martin D-28 that was retopped by Martin Guitars. I spent the better part of a year traveling around Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky and all the luthiers who looked at it gave me the same report: the top has been worked on too many times and can not be salvaged in a way that would be respectable to the instrument. I took it to the Martin factory and they gave me an identical report, at which time I had them install a New VTS Adirondack Top, Bridge, Pickguard, Bracing Nut, some Frets, Binding, and refinish. All needed repairs were done including: Glue Back and Side Cracks, Reset Neck, Glue Back Bracing, Glue (2) cracks in neck - near nut. The guitar took the Custom Shop Aging, so the finish is crazed; and the guitar has a PLEK Setup.
The original top is included with the sale.
This guitar sounds awesome. It has a great full lush sound and is a treat to play. The neck has a nice depth but isn't a fat neck. The Brazilian Rosewood is super straight grained!
