About This Vintage Martin Guitar
1954 Martin D-18 #138438
Be sure to check out the other vintage guitars from the Ed Simpkins collection - 1937 Martin 0-17H, 1948 Martin 000-28, 1951 Gibson J-45.
This guitar was purchased from the original owner in 1996, and is now being offered to the public again - that will make you the third owner. When it was bought in 1996, the neck was reset, full refret, bone nut install, plugged several holes from an electric pickup, touch-up back wear. Outside of the touchup on the back, the finish is original. The finish on the back of the neck is gone in many areas and is smooth to the feel. The original frets are included. This guitar is very playable as is, see video, but will need service to make it a players guitar up the neck.
The plugged holes include in front of the bridge where a pickup was installed, a hole on the lower bout, and a hole on the side. The conservations work was expertly executed. There are no cracks except a hariline pickguard crack.
Otherwise the guitar has a natural and beautiful patina. Original bridge, bridge plate, tuners, pickguard, and case.
There are a few pictures at the end of the set of the previous owner enjoying the instrument.
