About This Mandolin
Eastman MDO305 Octave Mandolin A Style #N2106826
This mandolin is in excellent condition. There is one small scratch on the back, and a little area of satin where your arm rest on the top is slightly glossed. A fresh set of strings would brighten it up a bit.
The octave mandolin has four pairs of strings tuned in fifths, G, D, A, E (low to high), an octave below a mandolin. Larger than the mandola, but smaller than the mandocello, its construction is similar to other instruments in the mandolin family. Usually the strings are all unison pairs, but the lower two may sometimes be strung as octave pairs with the higher-pitched octave string on top so that it is hit before the thicker lower-pitched string.
